Again Azure wondered if the man confused one word for another. The dead are not even cold yet, and those there are in beds because of me. He would return his gaze to the room beyond the glass after a few more seconds. This had become common place it seemed. "Maybe one day you will consider only running with your own. Yeah?" The doctor said as he began walking away, a light hearted chuckle coming from his detestable gullet. Azure said nothing, but kept his gaze forward. Burning each face into his memory. The suggestion from the other man was not one to take, as more often than not others of his kind fell in love with the beast within, not dreading it, and wishing it gone.
Now alone his thoughts wandered. Mostly to this last mission. Originally they his team was meant to deal with a family of cave troll which had been spotted close to a small town in Norway. As trolls are never easily dealt with, Azure had requisitioned for heavy armaments. Mostly consisting of firebombs, and explosives. His plan had been to find their home, and attack early in the morning before the sun had risen. At which point the team could lead the family outside to be killed off by the sun light, by using the resulting smoke from such weapons as cover upon leaving the mouth of the cave. It should have been an easy task, but again dealing with trolls is never easy, and he knew that.
As the team arrived at their location, and began their descent it was clear that the explosives were not going to be a viable option as the cave opened into a long abandoned mining shaft, of more than questionable stability. Choosing to press on, it also became apparent that leading the family of Mountain Kings would be near impossible. So the plan changed. To getting close enough to the den, and scouting so that they could return as soon as they were able. Hours into the descent they had the day on their side, as most trolls would sleep during the day. So as long as they were quite the scouting mission would be simple.
Upon arriving at the den, the team was met with a worrisome sight of not one, but possibly upwards of a dozen families living together. The reason for this was a huldra who could been seen walking the families. Huldra were female trolls whom walked a line close to that of a human, and shared the enchanting song of a siren, while keeping the frightening strength of their blood line. The most frightening part was that they would often enchant guardians, which would end up leading others to them to also become protectors. This only caused the job to become that much harder, as her intelligence was higher than that of those around her as well. While there were multiple entrances, and exits to the chamber, even with the use of explosives it was not guaranteed they could deal with the whole group in one go. Retreat was the preferred option.
An option they were going to take until they heard movement behind them. As the huldra had the ability of complex thought, it had seemed she had also established a patrol unit. A unit that was now at the end of the tunnel behind them. While not being great in terms of sight trolls were vastly keen in smell. More so than a vampire, or werewolf in those regards, and while they did have their scents masked by urine it would not help if the mountain kings saw them directly. Azure's team of seven including himself, did not have the fighting power for what was to come. The noise from a fight would have the whole den on them in a matter of moments, so he did the only thing he could. He ordered the placement of a few explosives set in the mouth of the entrance they had come from, and he prepared a shot meant for the huldra. There were few objections. They would use the firebombs to secure their retreat as best they could, and hope it would cause in fighting.
Again being the least ideal plan they had to find an exit while on the run as when Azure fired upon the huldra they had to move quickly as the den awoke. Hurried preparation of fuzes for the bombs meant they didn't go off as planned, and there would be no cave in to deal with a portion of numbers. in short due to lack of knowledge, and lack of resources the mission was a failure in more way than one. Two of his own were slain, while the remainder were all critically injured. They had been found due to a request for aid if they had not responded within a set amount of time. However one had died to her own injuries before help ever arrived. Azure himself, had taken a sound beating, and had suffered from a crushed left arm, shattered hip, a few crushed organs, and a head injury. All of this having taken place only a few weeks ago.
Normally there would have been a break in missions until his team was able to recover. Off time as you would. That must not be the case due to his own healing, and the group sitting before him. With a heartfelt sigh, and a slight limp with each step of the right leg Azure took the files he had been given, and prepared his way towards the meeting hall. He would take his time as to give them the pleasure of meeting with one another first, before the missions started, and before he had to bury any of them.
